Small and medium-sized transformers: Future industry development direction

Primarily focusing on small and medium-sized products, there are new distribution transformers that are currently recommended for use in urban and rural grid renovations. These are seventh-generation energy-efficient products, and also include wound core transformers, amorphous alloy transformers, fully sealed transformers, combined transformers, dry-type transformers, high-flash-point oil transformers, and gas-insulated transformers. The production processes for these transformers can largely utilize the production processes of the aforementioned large transformers, with variations based on the specific product. For example, for wound core transformers, currently produced wound core transformers all have closed cores with multi-stage and R-type cores, requiring equipment such as a wound core machine, special winding machine, and core annealing furnace; otherwise, it is difficult to produce wound core transformers.
For another example, to achieve low-maintenance products, the corrugated tank type fully sealed transformer has been developed, requiring a corrugated tank production line. Currently, China has simplified corrugated tank production lines that can also meet production requirements. For amorphous alloy transformers, due to the extremely thin (0.03 mm) and brittle nature of the amorphous ribbon material, it is generally difficult for manufacturers to process it into a core, so generally, ready-made cores are purchased, such as those produced by AlliedSignal in the United States or the China Iron and Steel Research Institute.
With the development of the national economy, cities are developing into larger, more prosperous areas with dense populations and numerous high-rise buildings. Urban grid renovations stipulate that 110 kV lines enter city substations, thus requiring 110 kV transformers at substations.
There are many types of high-flash-point oils, such as silicone oil Midel-7131, α oil, β oil, etc., but considering various factors, β oil is the most suitable. β oil is non-toxic and compatible with all materials used in transformers, has a flash point of 308℃, and is moderately priced at approximately RMB 20 per kg. Its only drawback is slightly higher viscosity than transformer oil; therefore, sufficient attention should be paid to oil passages and heat dissipation. Producing β oil transformers requires no special equipment.
